Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 One of "Those people", left an anonymous comment and then signed her name to it. I go back and read that post every time I feel the need for a good laugh.
I read a lot, I have very eclectic taste in all things, from decorating, clothes, music, to reading material.
In the book I'm reading now, by Dean Koontz, one of the characters says; "Being a hard drinking woman with numerous interests in addition to poker, Granny Sugers didn't always spend as much time speaking God's word as she promised Him she would. She believed that God expected to be conned more often than not and that He would be a good sport about it.
You can con God and get away with it, Granny said, if you do so with charm and wit. If you live your life with imagination and verve, God will play along just to see what outrageously entertaining thing you'll do next.
He'll also cut you some slack if you are astonishingly stupid in an amusing fashion. Granny claimed that this explained why uncountable millions of breathtakingly stupid people get along just fine in life.
Of course, in the process you must never do harm to others in any way or you will cease to amuse Him and payment comes due for the promises you didn't keep."
When I read those lines, I thought about "Those people", while much of what they have done is funny as hell in some ways, they have done real harm to people I know and like.
Granny Gem believes God does not take kindly to folks who are unkind to others, especially people who try to do good, and who you don't know, have never met, and will never meet.
Just because YOU don't believe God exists, doesn't mean you are getting away with anything. I post this as a mild warning to "Those people" to stay as amusing as the person who signed her name to the aforementioned post, it may be your saving grace because none of you are charming, witty, or have an ounce of verve.
Sadly, you are just breathtakingly stupid.
