I have been reading the crime blogs of late. I don't know what's worse, the telling of the crimes from across the country or the way they are told. What's more there doesn't seem to be any thoughts about why these horrible things happen.
Things like kids shooting up schools, and parents murdering their own children. Young people killing parents, their friends, and houses full of strangers. Husbands and wives killing each other, and complete strangers murdering other strangers for a variety of reasons from greed to pure meanness.
There are a plethora of web sites and blogs dedicated to making the sexualization of children a good thing. Babies being raped and injured by really screwed up men, and some women too it seems. Mothers who allow their kids to be used sexually for another hit off the crack pipe. Fathers selling their children for another bag of meth.
Everybody is writing about the horrors of living and dyeing in this society, but no one is looking for the reasons why. The blogers cut and paste this horror story and that madness and blather from time to time about the scumbag and other names, as if name calling makes it better. As if name calling can explain away the unthinkable and answer the question. Why?
I read, someplace, long ago, some scientific study, some science types, had written about rats. According to the study, too many rats in a small space made all the rats go out of their little rat minds. The rats murdered each other, the females ate their young, the males raped the females and each other. Over all health declined, rats lost their hair, developed cancers, breathing problems, became obese, and depressed. The young rats all behaved the same way the adult rats behaved.
I blame all the trouble in this country on Republicans.
While there have always been mentally unbalanced people, in the 80's when mental health professionals were starting to really understand the causes and effects of many mental diseases, and drugs to treat patients, R.R. and his anorexic wife were the heads of state. R.R had already destroyed the mental health system in California, and before he left office he had pretty much ruined the mental health system in the rest of the country.
It seems poor people were more apt to be mentally ill and the government would rather spend our money on making wealthy people wealthier, than cure the sick, poor, and lame. Ironic isn't it? If more money had been spent on diseases like Alzheimer's, perhaps ol' RR's last years would have been better and happier.
The streets and jails are full of walking wounded. Mentally ill people go to jail where they are abused, preyed upon, and just get sicker. Mentally ill prisoners put guards and other prisoners at risk in jails and prisons all across the country.
The parents of young man who shot and killed two police officers in New York a few weeks ago, had desperately tried to get help for their son in the days and weeks before he killed two people and himself.
This broken mental health system is just ONE of the WHY'S? OUR CIVILIZATION GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET
