Every day, every damn day, it's on the news, another baby raped... dead or a little body badly mangled inside...
Somebody always blames the child's mother, and it's usually the boy friend who does this evil, but sometimes it's the child's father, or an uncle, babysitter, or a neighbor.
I think we can all agree, this is not normal behavior, for a grown man to rape a baby, a child, and cause that kind of pain and damage to any living thing. It's wrong. It's sick.
Two teen age-rs, kill a man, cut his head off, burn his hands and feet with a blow torch and throw his head in the river so the body can't be identified. It's wrong. It's sick.
Another woman gone missing, locked in a basement and sexually tortured sometimes for years, a little boy knocked off his bike and when he gets too old, he's used to find another, younger little boy for his "adopted father" to abuse. It's wrong. It's sick.
An infant ripped from the womb, and brought home by a very disturbed woman, or a woman who has told her lover she's pregnant and has to produce a baby. It's wrong. It's sick
A mother drowns her children in the bathtub.
A father shoots the whole family, especially the in-laws.
A husband kills his wife, marries again and the next wife goes missing and is soon presumed dead.
A woman talks her teen lover into shooting her husband.
A child arms himself and goes to school and shoots his teachers, and classmates.
A collage kid with issues he's been dealing with all his life, nuts up, and in a few hours becomes a mass murderer. It's wrong. It's sick.
Young men, collage age, seem to be drowning in rivers and lakes, along the freeway from Minnesota to New Jersey. Too many bodies to be just a coincidence, but law enforcement across the states can't see a pattern and refuse to say, "serial killer" and the numbers just keep going up.
Some one, in almost every city, in almost every state, is killing prostitutes. It's wrong. It's sick.
There are people, all across the country it seems, who are doing drive by shootings of animals. Peoples pets and livestock maimed and slaughtered in their own yards. It's sick.
Bloggers blog about these horrors and their readers make toxic, and hate filled, violent, comments about what should happen to the perpetrators when they are caught. It's sick.
SICK is the key word here.
This country is in the midst of a mental health crisis.
Starting at the top, the inmates are running the asylum!
and at the bottom, the inmates are running the asylum!
In between are the rest of us, stuck in that hand basket.
We have our own moments of anger, and angst but we control it more or less. We try to instill a conscience and a moral compass in our children. We gasp and some of us weep when we hear of the horrors, and yet...
While the government is spending trillions of dollars for the war that fear built, the mental health system has degraded to producing income for a select few, while providing some therapy for a lot of folks who's biggest problem is being frustrated by seeing all the things that are wrong and sick and not being able to do anything about it. Then a few pennies go to keeping under lock and key, for a while anyway, those who are a danger to themselves or others.
A trickle of pennies goes into research. Mostly for drugs to keep people like me from waking up crying, because we woke up.
Being depressed isn't the same as raping an infant.
"A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," said Ben Franklin.
In other words, we need to re-set our national priorities and begin spending our tax money in ways that establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity.
With what's left over we can fix the health care system, including mental health intervention for those kids that grow into monsters.
